The Green Bay Packers Get a New Catholic Bishop!!!! Where Does Ricken Stand

The Diocese of Green Bay is no longer Sede vacante. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, today announced the appointment of the Most Reverend David L. Ricken as the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay. Bishop Ricken will take possession of this Diocese at a special ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 28, at a time and location to be determined.. He is currently the Bishop of Diocese of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The Green Bay Newspaper has a piece here. I am sure the Diocese of Green Bay Web sites will have more.

The Green Bay Diocese has been without a bishop since last Sept. 28, when Bishop David Zubik was installed as Bishop of Pittsburgh. They Actually got a Bishop pretty quick it it seems.

This move sees the number of sede vacante dioceses in the United States remaining at eight: Cheyenne, Wyoming; St. Louis, Missouri; Gallup, New Mexico; Biloxi, Mississippi; Juneau, Alaska; Charleston, South Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; New Ulm, Minnesota.

I am sure Brett Farve will be Happy. On that note see The Green Bay Diocese has been without a bishop since last Sept. 28, when Bishop David Zubik was installed as Bishop

What will he be like? It looks great and is in the model of Bishops we need (IE Orthodox) GO see Good signs from new GB Bishop from Gop3/ . Great news from one of America's most important Catholic Dioceses.

I am sure Brett Farve is happy. On that note see Green Bay Packers Brett Favre Wife Talks About Their Catholic Faith . This brings up the most important matter the Bishop will have to give his input on.

What about the Quarterback situation at Green Bay. Many people in my neck of the woods down here in the south are watching with interest. LSU stud and Quarterback Matt Flynn (pictured above)of the LSU 2007 National Champions LSU Tigers has entered the Line of Succession to Brett Farve's (also a local boy) throne at Green Bay.

Currently he is in battle with former Louisville QB Brian Brohm for the coveted King in waiting position in case Aaron Rodgers flames out!!!

How ever Bishop Ricken has entered a Hornet's nest because King Farve Might be returning.

What is Bishop's views on this situation? Is he ready to answer this question and give Holy Mother Churches viewpoint on this Quarterback Hierarchy Crisis. Will his new Episcopate reign start off to a troubled start if the gives the wrong answer? Stay tuned

Update- I would keep a eye on Whispers in the Loggia for updates. he is the best on these things
