The Louisiana legislature is considering a slew of bills regarding sex crimes and sex offenders. I hope the Louisiana legislature uses some common sense here. The Mighty Favog voices some of my concerns at A demagogue by any other name . . . or, Jerry Lee Lewis is so screwed .
I think he has a fine point. I am not that old but in my high school days High School Seniors would date High School Freshman. Many of them would be sex offenders today and be labled such for life if people are not careful. His point about our people of our grandparents age and what was acceptable back then should be noted. At some point biology has got to be respected and considered. This really hit me when I was reading stories about "war brides" that the GI's would bring home frome the UK, Germany, and Italy.
I think at some point common sense has to come into some of this stuff. I know people might diasagree. However when your good 18 or 19 year old boy makes a mistake and has sex with mature looking 14 or 15 year old girl and then after being convicted has to to put his picture in the paper and if a current bill passes cannot take part in halloween, and a million other things you might see things differently. This happens a good bit and these people are no more "sex offenders" than you or I.
Update- Just wanted to clarify I am not endorsing all the above behavior. However to make a person a felon, ruin his or her life, and on many cases cost the State of Louisiana Thousands of dollars a year to supervise seems to be waste on many levels. I am not talking about the guys that molest kids in parks ormeet up with them on the net.
