Well it is spreading in places. It is not spreading my little ole Diocese of Shreveport that sadly is without a Bishop right now. (By the way any rumors who we are getting?). Perhaps I shall post my thoughts on this situation next week. Who knows perhaps someone in power at the Vatican will be googling "Diocese of Shreveport" and take my recommendations.
Anyway on to the Latin Mass or what if really called the extraordinary form of the Latin rite. There was a huge well attended training session for Priests on the "Latin Mass" in Arkansas. There is only one Diocese for the entire state and that is the Diocese of Little Rock. Father Z has the very interesting article and has comments as well here at In Arkansas, 3 day program on Summorum Pontificum .
I noticed in the comment section this interesting link. That is De Fide Catholica. This is a priest that belongs to the Fraternity of Saint Peter. That order ,which is loyal and union with the Church, just performs the "latin Mass" as well as other the other rites of the that Liturgy. He is the Chaplain of the Latin Mass Community - Saint John the Baptist - in Arkansas. He also was one of the people that were giving presentations at this event. You can see his entry about his at his post Lecture on the Motu Proprio .
At Fathers Z's blog I noticed this comment as to this priest:
In his half-dozen or so years at St. Francis de Sales, the FSSP parish in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Fr. Demets was a veritable johnny appleseed spreading the TLM across the South. He trained priests who now celebrate the TLM in the Dioceses of Charleston (SC) and Knoxville (TN), celebrated the first TLM’s in recent decades in places ranging from Auburn (AL) to Naples (FL), as well as in a number of parish churches in the Atlanta area, including the cathedral there.
Fr. Demets is so humble and solely devoted to God and Church that he probably doesn’t even realize what a hero he is to those of us in this area of the country.
Well that is nice. I hope people in the Dioceses of Alexandria and Shreveport in Louisiana, the Diocese of Jackson in Mississippi, and the Diocese of Memphis in Tenn take notice. Even from the far southern regions of Diocese of Alexandria this is not more than a six hour drive. In Shreveport it can be less than THREE. It would be nice to take advantage of this resource since in the past it appears he loves to help train priest in this regard.
Being a resident of Arkansas, I certainly hope it spreads here, especially in the NW corner. My local parish is an abomination. Altar girls outnumber altar boys 4 to 1. People can't understand the concept of kneeling after communion, and our monsignor has upwards of 15 people on the altar as eucharistic ministers. My God it's the most cluttered thing you've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteSteve, I think I know what parish you're talking about. (One that I know longer attend.) Believe me, the RCIA class was even worse. I would love it if a Latin Mass were offered *anywhere* in the NW corner.
