I think one of the biggest misconceptions about the Catholic Faith is that the Church proclaims it has the answers to everything. That is not true. From what happens to unbaptized children, to evolution, to if Mary died and was then assumed or did not die before she was assumed and did there are many questions the Church says we don't know.
When we are talking about Predestination the Catholic Church leaves a lot to the individual believer. It says what can't be believed in some circumstances but leaves other aspects open.
The Canterbury Tales has this excellent post Is the Thomist Doctrine of Predestination Calvinistic?. A very good read. Please check out the comment section. Some heavy hitters, such as David Armstrong and Father Kimel(who had the Pontifications blog) weigh in.
I also very much want to promote a book that is mentioned in the comment section. That is Grace, Predestination, and the Salvific Will of God. I bought that book at Half Price books in Dallas. It was one of the best Catholic book buys I ever had.
Hi James,
ReplyDeleteWhere in the Cathesismo are you getting the stance on predestination?
Do you have a link to it? I'd like to read it.
Edgar.
Thansk the comment. Let me get a couple of post up and I will give some links. I am thinking of doing another post on this to clarify what Catholic shave to believe and what Catholics are free to belive about predestination
