Football Referee Signals For Bad or Annoying Things At Mass

I about bust a gut looking at this. This will be a classic post of the Catholic blogsphere this year.

The Curt Jester has really outdone himself here. As he says: "With the presence of the Liturgical Referee you can leave liturgical abuse spotting to the experts and spend your time instead trying to enter the Mass in prayer."

My favorite has been added by Fr. Philip N. Powell, OP over at his blog here.

Ref stands with legs slightly apart, hands on hips, and rolls his eyes while sighing loudly:

Presider Violating the Rubrics by Pretending to be One of the People and thus Exemplifying Clericalism by Abusing His Power, a.k.a. "Faux Liturgical Egalitarianism." This occurs most frequently when the presider refuses to sit in the presider chair and instead sits in the congregation while the readings are being read. It also occurs when the presider insists on going out into the congregation to "greet the people" at the Peace despite the fact that he has already shared the peace in the dialog exchange: "Peace be with you" and "And also with you." Penalty: must install a rail around the altar and hire guards with instructions to beat and detain anyone who tries to cross the rail, including and especially the presider.

The Curt Jester has got the whole thing in a great PDF file you can download at the above link

  1. Sending you a link that I think you might like. A video of the "Youth for Truth" Rally in Aurora, Illinois, that was held on September 1st. They are trying to keep the largest abortuary in America from opening in their town.
