That post is It's About Time Catholics Had Sunday School For Everyone Every Week. Read the whole thing but I like this part when she says:
Frankly Catholics need Sunday School more than Protestants. We have 2,000 years of incredible scholarship to learn about not to mention that book "we" put together and agreed on in 397 at the Council of Carthage. As Catholics we have the fullness of the Christian faith....that means we have MORE to know. It's time we started acting like it.
Amen to that. I really don't think cradle Catholics here in the United States( I assume Sunday School is a Worldwide Evangelical and Protestant thing too) realize how shocking it is to converts the appalling lack of Sunday school like education. I mean in the tradition I was raised in you do it till like you die.
What are the reasons for this? Why is there not a tradition of constant education in our Churches. By the way the second biggest shock is that CCD stopped during the Summer. Also that KIDS THAT WENT TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WERE EXEMPT!!! What is up with that?
Perhaps the Church that was already busy making sure heresy was not taught by nuns and priest didn't want the problem of a 10 million "lay" teachers to worry about. However I think this is long overdue. It will not occur overnight but we can start to develop these culture of Christian "education".
