I hope I do not have to wait to be on social security to see this in many of the Catholic Parishes wherever I might reside.
The Anchoress has a this wonderful post Who sings prays twice. That is of course as she notes from St Augustine. What this is are several beautiful You Tube vids of a really splendid hymn, O Sacrum Convivium. You will recognize it. Take note that she has people from Nuns to every days guys and gals singing it. How wonderful.
She states in part:
We hear, often, that we Catholics are consigned these days to the current use of deplorable, three chord “campfire” music because the great hymns are “too hard” for most people to sing, even though we managed to sing them for hundreds of years
As she notes those You tube vids put that to rest.
On a side let me offer this vid. Would it not be wonderful to go a average Diocese's Cathedral and see boys like this singing every Sunday. Hopefully I will see something like this(link to vid below if you can't see it) at St Johns in Shreveport one day.
I tell you what. Get the local Cathedral Schools training a momma's young boys to do this and enrollment will shoot through the roof.
