At the Catholic blog Vova Nova, one of the posters has a intriguing post. It is called What Causes Suicide Terrorism?
Basically his theme is that occupation causes this horrible evil. I think that it might play a part in it. However as to Iraq there is a slight problem as to this theory. Most of the Suicide bombers are not Iraqis. This tidbit of news is nothing new. In fact this Washington Post Article way back in 2005 showed that. In a article published just a couple of weeks on Newsweek/MSNBC we have:
The Bombers: A Breakdown
Names and nationalities of known suicide bombers in Iraq.
Those stats are: Saudi Arabia (53), Iraq (18), Italy (8), Syria (8), Kuwait (7), Jordan (4), Libya (3), Egypt (3), Tunisia (3), Turkey (3), Belgium (2), France (2), Spain (2), Yemen (3), Lebanon (1), Morocco (1), Britain (1), Bengal (1), Sudan (1) and Unknown (18). Now the word "Occupation" is thrown around alot despite the the fact that the Iraqi elected Governement does not want us to leave tomorrow. Perhaps Catholics in thinking about this conflict need to start thinking about who is really occupying who here?
By chance someone on my blog links hit on the same subject as Morning Minion but has quite a diferent view.
That blogger is Sigmund, Carl and Alfred with their post The Promise Of Failure. I would say this is quite two different world views as to the cause.
There is another Catholic blogger that is touching on Iraq and various other issues that we see when Catholics of good will get into this. I shall post his thought later tonight.
The occupation causes 'horrible evil'?
ReplyDeleteAbsurd, I'm aftraid.
The occupation would end tomorrow if the Palestinians were to meet three conditions- all agreed to by the US, the EU, the UN and the Quartet.
Cessation of violence.
Secure borders.
Diplomatic recognition.
These conditions have been in place for 40 years.
Which of these conditions are so onerous a burden for the Palestinians?
History has proved timr and time again that the Palestinians would rather kill Jews than have a state.
Why? Because having a state means accountability- an idea they fear more than peace.
