What Does The Prayer Really Say? has several posts that have grabbed my eye.
First is a wonder item among about Pope Benedict and his brother that is also a priest. Father Z found this on a Italian blog and gives us the translation.
Father Z's other posts have to deal with the latest on the reaction to, and the implementation of the Motu Proprio .
The first deals with a conference in the UK that will help train priest in saying the Classical Roman liturgy. Over 50 have signed up!!!!. The average age of the priests coming are pretty young. It should be noted that the Bishop of Tulsa Oklahoma USA is going to be attending and celebrating the "extraordinary form” of the Roman Rite as a part of the the closing activities of the conference. Father Z in this post is interacting with a piece from the London Telegraph. My knowledge of 20th century Catholicism in the UK is slim besides the fact that it is on the rise.
The article mentions that the Bishops there are not thrilled about his. However , it is my understanding Pope Paul VI gave a special Indult to the UK to continue saying the "Latin Mass" when he issued the reforms . A Indult that was not applied elsewhere. Therefore I must think there had to be a huge love and devotion of what is now called the "extraordinary" form of the Roman rite. I would be curious to know how this alleged current attitude of the UK Bishops against the "latin Mass" developed.
Under Why did Pope Benedict issue the Motu Proprio? we see some funny or not so funny depending on your point of view pictures of a German Catholic Carnival Mass. I agree with one of the comments that this looks like the cast party for “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court".
A very positive Bishop's statements on the Motu Proprio from the Diocese of Fargo North Dakota with Father Z's interaction. I would love to go to some Masses in the Diocese of Fargo. I have to admit my interest has peaked in that area since the hilarious movie Fargo. I often wondered if people up there really sounded like they do in the movie.
Let me say one last thing about the Diocese of Fargo. They might sound funny but boy do they seem to be having some significant success as to vocations. Remember this is NORTH DAKOTA!!! The whole state's population is so small that they don't even have a Division One football team!!! Yet they are ordaining more people than a Diocese three times their size. Reminds me of a Diocese in Louisiana. There is a trend I notice in these Bishop's statements and the health of their Diocese.
Pretty soon local Chamber of Commerce groups in places like this will take note of this and focus their advertising campaigns to take advantage of this. For instance Come and Live in ALexandria Louisiana We have PRIESTS. Let us pray these hopeful signs continue.
The English bishops are on the whole very poor. I recently heard to very good and holy and pretty well known ( if you're on this side of the water) priests talking. One said to the other there are some good bishops. The other said, I bet you can count them on one hand though. The first priest stopped and held his hand up and sticking his fingers out until his thumb and three fingers were pointing up.
ReplyDeleteHe stopped and said to the other priest - OK you're right, you can count them on one hand!
Thanks
