A lot Happened On August 6th - Including the Dropping of the Bomb

I am about to do my Liturgy of my Hours and will do the Office of the Dead in memory of the passing of Pope Paul VI. I was reading Father Victor's daily message for the day and he reminds us that a lot of things happened today. It is the feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Pope Paul Vi died, Saint Dominic, died on this date in 1221, and by the way this is the day we dropped the bomb on the city of Hiroshima in Japan.

Fulton Sheen said:
"When, I wonder, did we in America ever get into this idea that freedom means having no boundaries and no limits? I think it began on the 6th of August 1945 at 8:15 am when we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. ... Somehow or other, from that day on in our American life, we say we want no limits and no boundaries."--Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen-

Is that true? Was it justifiable? Did we by that action prevent evil or were we evil itself? Fulton Sheen was no extreme pacifist that is for sure.

I am never too thrilled how the Catholic Left or the Catholic Right argue this issue. IT gets real petty real fast. However this is one that we Catholics must be deal with. I have formed some conclusions of my own. However if I share them I will probally do it on the anniversary of the bombing of Nakasaki. That seems a particular good day for a Catholic to focus on it for reasons that are obvious. That shall be coming it in few days

Anyway no matter what your stand I think it is proper to remember the people that died in these bombing today. I shall include them in my Office of the Dead tonight.
