Highlights From The Catholic Paper In Baton Rouge

As a part of the Louisiana aspect of this blog , I highlight the Catholic papers from the state of Louisiana. Today we hit the Paper from the Diocese of Baton Rouge that can be downloaded here in pdf form

This is the August 15 section and I will point out highlights that interest me(so check out the whole thing)

Page 1 of the paper really show that the Baton Rouge area folks have a treat.
The Image(statue) of Our Lady of America will be on display in St. Louis basilica in Baton Rouge through Sept 8th. There is a nice picture and talks about the history of this devotion. This is part of a Nationwide tour.

Page 2 shows that our Lady of the Lake has been chosen for a major Cancer pilot program.

Page 3 has an excellent article on a Priest that died recently. He was Father William J. Hewson. He sounds like he was a great Priest and served everyone to the most of his ability

Page 4 -Father John Carville has his column up. It is a nice one on the Holy Spirit

Page 5 has a nice article on a Catholic Family at Our Lady of Mercy that all throws themselves into serving the Church and the community

Page 7 has a real nice article on the Prayer Phone Lines that the Catholic Churches in the area run in Baton Rouge. That is a great ministry. My grandfather is a Baptist. He did a lot of work for the prayer telephone line for the First Baptist Church of Bossier. I can not tell you how important that work is. I am Glad to see we are doing it. Check this article out

Page 10 has information on the Diocese of Baton Rouge adult education programs. I would really check that out because registration appears to be starting. Those classes look good

Page 11 has nice pictures and continues an article that started on Page 1. That is the Catholic Hispanic ministry and the events that happened on the Feast of the Assumption

Page 12 again highlights another Young person that is doing great work for the Diocese and her Church. This highlights a student that attends Broadmoor High School.

Page 17 is real interesting. Especially in light of Father Carville's controversial comments in this paper as to the "latin Mass" a few weeks back. There is a wonderful column on celebrating the Extraordinary form of the Mass by by Father Eugene Hemrick. Also note the LEtter to the editor on the same page titled "Fluency in Latin not needed for participation in Tridentine Mass" ON that same page there is nice column on rediscovering the Rosary.

Page 19 has a interesting article on the big Social Justice workshop they had last month in Baton Rouge

Pretty soon I will be doing my Louisiana Catholic events for Sept. Here are some of the upcoming event in the upcoming events section that catch my eye. Please note there were ads on the paper for other events so check out the whole paper
