I have noted that as to the conflict in Iraq , the Catholic analysis seems stuck in the day before the war. That is was the inital military entry into Iraq just. As I keep saying we have moved way past that point. There are a whole new set of concerns and moral questions that must be asked. Such as if a rapid withdrawal of US troops would cause genocide on a horrific scale.
The Rome Catholic magazine Chiesa has a great article called Why Al-Qaeda Wants the Head of the Grand Ayatollah Sistani. I think it is as important read and shows a crucial aspect of what is going on over there. I also think certain conservatives need to read this. Some Conservatives I feel have been part of the problem as to public perception of the conflict. That is by their over the top Moslem bashing left and right. You know they deep down they all think alike. That is not the case as this article points out. We need to think of these brave Iraqis risking their lives and dying as our allies. They have a way to go. But they are dying for the cause too.
I think this article is a important one for Catholics to read when trying to come to a position on the Iraq conflict.
