Slaughter of Democrats In Texas Means Healthy Louisiana Gambling Industry

A blog entry of local importance.

Oh Rejoice ole Lake Charles and Shreveport /Bossier. Election night to the our neighbor to the West was very good for us.

The one thing that makes Louisiana gambling a net positive for Louisiana is the Western Louisiana markets. If you got to a Casino in those places 8 out of every 10 cars seems to have Texas or Arkansas plates. That is out of State money coming into the State. Further these people are staying the weekend which means more jobs.

In contrast in Baton Rouge for instance it is largely Louisiana money only.

Every since we got the casinos the biggest fear was Texas at any moment could cut off the neck of the goose that laid the golden egg by legalizing Gambling to serve their Houston and Dallas markets. Thankfully the conservative and Republican bent of Texas has stopped that. Yes I don't get the morality either. Texas the land of All nude strip clubs in the most strangest of places but NO GAMBLING!!

Regardless It appears that perhaps because of the giant wave of GOP seats in the State legislature (plus being a redistricting cycle too boot) Louisiana might be safe for a decade or more.

There is a good article on what happened a few nights ago in Texas at Analysis: Historic Republican sweep will redefine governing in Texas.

In that very interesting article is this nugget:
In the House, there might be no wall. A tougher voter identification requirement (one proposal that, thanks to a 2009 change in Senate rules, the Democratic minority in the Senate can't stop) couldn't pass last year, but Democrats will be hard-pressed to stop it this time. New abortion restrictions and private school vouchers could come into play. There is probably little to no hope for casinos or other new forms of gambling to raise revenue.

Well I suspect not!! Which is a little bit of good news for the fragile Louisiana economy.
