New Mexico Abolishes the Death Penalty- A lesson For Abortion Politics

Whispers has a great piece Out of Dialogue, Conversion on this event that just happened.

Sadly foes of abortion don't have this option.

The importance of getting these matters to the States is shown here

I can recall when there a Catholic argument that one could not vote for the first George Bush because he supported State execution. For that matter that argument was made as to the second Bush too.

As I pointed out to my more liberal democrat friends that did this ploy when can you recall a Ronald Reagan, or either Bush going out and using the bully pulpit to promote State Execution when they were President? Did Bush go to Illinois and rant against the moratorium there?

Not very often if ever!!! That is because the President rarely deals with these issues. It is in the states. However as to abortion that is a different story because well the states are prohibited from getting no where with this!!

I often hear an incredible argument that reversing ROE would not outlaw all abortion so whats the point. Well are people going to ignore the slow and steady progress that has been made to eliminate the State Execution? Is this no big deal because the neighboring state of Texas has execution still? I think not

Perhaps Douglas Kmiec can pop up and explain what I am missing.
