Virginia Episcopal Church New Stance On Gay Unions Non Story in Washington Post

Get Religion has a excellent piece on the the Episcopal Church of Virgina and their move to bless same sex Unions. It links a interesting Washington Times piece. For more background see my post from a few days ago Episcopal Diocese of Virginia Goes For Gay Unions . The main brunt of the piece is the strange silence of the Washington Post on this very important story.

I have written before that where I live the Bishop of Western Louisiana is a major player in the on going controversies in the Episcopal Church and his moves are watched closely. Well they are watched closely by some but not Louisiana papers. His Diocese takes in a good many of Louisiana's major cities- Shreveport, Monroe , Alexandria, Lake Charles, and Lafayette. Yet despite having one of the biggest religious stories of the year with huge political overtones in their own backyard most reporters here seem clueless. I literally learn more from the UK press what the Bishop is doing than from the newspaper that is just miles away from his Cathedral

The Washington Post though is not that naive nor is suffering under the budget constraints that these gannet papers are. So it is curious that so far this major development that has national and in the end International effects is a non story so far.
