Why In Heavens Name is The National Right To Life About To Endorse Fred Thompson

I really don't get this. Tip of the hat to Vox Nova that led me to this item. Go seethis article Nat'l Right to Life to endorse Thompson.

Nat'l Right to Life to endorse Thompson
Fred Thompson will pick up the support of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) tomorrow, according to two Republicans familiar with the decision. For a candidate who came up empty-handed last week when three prominent Christian conservatives endorsed GOP hopefuls and is falling in both national and early state polls, the move comes at a critical time.NRLC is the most prominent anti-abortion group in the country, with affiliates in all 50 states and over 3,000 local chapters.

A spokesperson for the organization declined to comment on their endorsement decision, but Thompson was likely rewarded for his strong pro-life voting record in the Senate. As Thompson frequently touts on the stump, he rated out at 100% on the group's report card. But some rivals and neutral observers are already puzzled at the decision. One supporter of another Republican hopeful called the move "a typical Washington insider deal."While his voting record is pure, Thompson indicated he supported abortion rights when he ran for the Senate in 1994.

As a federalist, he opposes including unborn children under 14th Amendement protections and supports letting states decide their own abortion laws. Still, in the hotly contested effort to court the fragmented social conservative base, the validation by this group represents a coup for Thompson.

This all strikes me as inside the beltway stuff. For months and months we had FOX News and others do an all Campaign blitz for Fred Thompson. Giving him millions and millions in free airtime and publicity. All with the sub message that "he is the only one that can inspire the Republican Faithful". All the while he had not even entered the race. All of this was very unfair of course. Fred Thompson enters and SURPRISE there was not a mass of people flocking to him Despite this free media promotion for him. I think it is an insult to several Pro-lifers in the race. Including and especially for Mike Huckabee that has the best Pro-Life Record of anyone. He is also gaining in the polls. All of which makes this endorsement so far away from the first primary very suspect to me.

Of course it doesn't make any sense for the RTL crowd to endorse Fred as he's fading and generally not a good candidate.

But Huckabee is no better since he has no money and can't compete. Ditto McCain.

Romney is a flip-flopper.

Tancredo is tractionless. Ditto Hunter.

Guliani? No comment needed that hasn't been said.

That leaves one one candidate on the rise: Dr. Ron Paul. Unlike the others, as an OB/GYN he is pro-life and has never done or recommended an abortion. He has been on that front line and held firm. He has walked the walk to go with talking the talk. HE is the one to support, period.

I have to agree with the above. Dr. Ron Paul is the man to get the job done when it comes matters of life.
