National Catholic Reporter made some "news" yesterday by having a official editorial calling that women be allowed to become Catholic Priests. I have to admit I sort of met this news with a yawn.
It is sort of like saying Our Sunday Visitor announces the rosary is a good thing. From the time I start reading NCR in the late 80's it is quite apparent what their viewpoint was on female priests. In fact I have just assumed this has been their position since Moses. The cynical part of me thinks this might be just an effort to promote Christmas subscription sales.
That being said assuming that they have never had an editorial like this before ( and who is really going to search through decades and decades of their papers in some archive to find out ) there are responses to this coming out.
I thought Elizabeth Scalia over at First Things had a good response at Is the Church Suppressing God’s Will?

Spot on with this write-up, I actually believe that this web site needs a
great deal more attention. I'll probably be back again to read more, thanks for the advice!

First of all I would like to say awesome blog!
I had a quick question that I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing. I've had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting
my thoughts out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but
it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how
to begin. Any suggestions or hints? Appreciate it!
