Senator Vitter Recieves a New Committee Assignment That Could Seal His Re Election.

Senator Vitter got two new Committee Assignments that should really help the State of Louisiana out and has the potential to make his relelection a done deal

One is U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. The other is the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services in which I am very excited about. Needless to say PROTECTING BARKSDALE AND FORT POLK IS A MAJOR PRIORITY!!!

Protecting these assets means making sure they have diverse Missions. An example of this can be seen in today's very welcome Louisiana headlines -Local base makes short lists: BAFB still in running for Global Strike, cyber ops nerve centers. If we get the Cyber Command well the non military spinoffs will be incredible and will produce a ton of jobs. Also it will could be a boom for LSU-Shreveport, Southern -Shreveport, and Louisiana Tech. No doubt all three would move quickly to establish some presence in the proposed Civilian Cyber park (something that the Legislature has already reserved funding for) .

How does this help Vitter? Well David Vitter is up for re election in just two short years. Unlike 4 years ago David will have to run in a closed Republican Primary. There are rumors he will have opposition because of David's big problem that was all over national news . I hope that people resist the temptation to run against him.

His likely Democrat opponent will be current Congressman Charlie Melachon whose District is the most likely to be eliminated after the upcoming Census.

South Louisiana Politicians are finally understanding North Louisiana politics and its diverse groups. In the upcoming Senate Race Northwest Louisiana will be crucial in deciding the victor.

If David can help secure these projects (and being on the Armed Services Committee helps) I think he will be amply rewarded in the Republican Primary by NW Louisiana voters (Barksdale is is in Bossier Parish which is one of the Bastions of Republican Voters in the State) and in the General election. The fact that Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu has this also as one of top priorities is course very helpful.

I hope Vitter is run against in the primary and I hope he loses. His backing of Rudy in the nomination campaign sealed the deal for me; he uses social conservatives but is reluctant to actually do anything when we need him to stick his neck out.

I understand the RUDY endorsement had and has some people still upset.

I guess my view is this and I have been critical of Vitter on several things.

Louisiana is in desperate need not to lose any more power (which is based on long you are there) in COngress. Our COngressional delegation was already weak. With the leaving of Baker, McCrery, and Jefferson all in one year the most snior COngressman we have is Rodney ALexander who has not been there that long.

Ad to that we lose one COngressman in 2012 and it is all a disaster.

Plus David does do good Citizen services and particully does this well in the North which sometimes has not been done well by Landrieu. That was a constant source of conflict between the BReaux and Landrieu staffs because Breaux was having to do it all.

Is he using social conservatives? Well I have yet to see evidence of that. But I am not sure how social conservative causes would be helped by again losing someone that has some senority and connections.
