When "By Scripture Alone…" Goes Very Very Wrong

I wouldn't call that by "the" scripture alone. I would call that by "a" scripture alone. This is a bit illustrative of the problem. It's not so much that there is a problem of adhering to scripture alone. The problem is that so many want to pick and choose which part of scripture to adhere to at the expense of all the rest of scripture. Additionally, too may want to adhere to a scripture minus 2 millenia of theological development. Everybody wants to start over with their own private interpretation. If a protestant can't embrace the orthodox creeds and practices of the first millenium of the common history of the Christian church, he can't very well call himself a Christian. To do so robs the term of it's historic definition.
